Great Finnish Gift Ideas to Bring Home from Helsinki

Discover Unique Finnish Gifts Ideas

When visiting Helsinki, one of the highlights is finding the perfect souvenirs that embody Finnish culture. From hand-crafted items to gourmet delights, this city offers an array of unique gift ideas that you can take home to cherish or share with loved ones.

Handcrafted Goods from Local Artisans

One of the best ways to experience Finnish culture is through its artisans. Look for beautifully crafted items such as traditional wooden utensils, hand-woven textiles, and delicate glassworks. These items not only make excellent gifts but also tell a story about Finland’s rich heritage. Some of the best wooden handicrafts to get is the Kuksa, this useful wooden cup is of Sami origin and is unique to the Laplands. Many of the market squares have handwoven or leather socks and mittens. Your best bets for these would be in the Market Squares that the Finn’s call Tori.

Delicious Finnish Treats

No visit to Helsinki would be complete without indulging in its culinary delights. Consider bringing back some Finnish delicacies, such as Cloudberry jam, Salmiakki (salty licorice), or artisanal cheeses. A crowd favorite has been the inexpensive candies called TV mix which give a great variety of sweets. You can even pick up a tin of Bear meat at the airport on your way back. These edible souvenirs are perfect for those who wish to share a taste of Finland with family and friends back home.

Rare and Delicious Alcohols

A favorite alcohol to bring back is Salmarri. A dark licorice liquor that has both bitter and sweetness to it. This liquor is generally a love it or hate it sort of thing and I enjoy seeing which side of the coin my friends and family land on. An overall crowd favorite is Minttu, this is a syrupy minty liquor, best served ice cold. I recommend bringing both bottles back when you are at the Duty Free section of the Vantaa airport since you skip most of the taxes.

Despite being too far north to have a strong grape cultivation, Finland still is able to create tasty local wines. One of my favorites to give to visitors and family is from the Ainoa winery. Their blueberry dessert wine, Sametti, is so delicious it can’t go wrong as a great choice to try for yourself or give to a loved one.

Finnish Gin is a great gift idea as well. Kyro is the best distillery in Finland and a bottle gin from this distillery.

Famous Finnish Design

Finland is well-known for its innovative design, and bringing home a piece can be a beautiful reminder of your trip. Look for iconic items such as Marimekko’s unique textile designs or Iittala’s stunning glassware. These design gifts encapsulate the essence of Finnish style and functionality.

In conclusion, when exploring Helsinki, keep an eye out for unique gifts that reflect the Finnish way of life. From handcrafted treasures to delicious treats, these ideas will surely delight anyone receiving a piece of Finland.
